Nearly fifty years after launch, NASA’s Voyager 1 is set to become the first spacecraft to reach one light-day from Earth, that’s over 16 billion miles away. At that distance, it takes two full days for a message to travel back and forth.
Launched in 1977, Voyager 1 explored the outer planets, entered interstellar space in 2012, and still sends data from beyond the Sun’s reach. Its mission may end in the 2030s, but its legacy will travel forever.
