The Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest known literary work, written around 2000 BCE and carrying a history of over 4,000 years.

This ancient Mesopotamian epic is a cornerstone of human storytelling and holds immense cultural, historical, and literary significance. It predates many other renowned texts, including the Bible, and contains an account of a great flood that was written more than 1,000 years before similar narratives appeared in biblical scripture.

Gilgamesh encounters Utnapishtim, a figure who resembles Noah from the Bible, as Utnapishtim recounts the story of a divine flood sent to cleanse the earth.

This narrative provides profound insights into ancient Mesopotamian beliefs about divine intervention, humanity’s fragility, and the search for immortality.
