Yarnhub | Fist Fight! Submarine vs Ship (1944)

On May 6th, 1944 destroyer escort USS Buckley was steaming at full speed to fight a German U-66 submarine.

An American patrol plane found her by radar and sent coordinates to the US Navy hunter-killer group. The USS Buckley found the submarine and engaged it in combat.

A hard battle ensued where the submarine was rammed and the fight spilled into hand-to-hand combat on the American ship. In this fight captain of the USS Buckley was forced to issue a command not heard in the US Navy for decades. "Stand by to repel boarders!"
