Yarnhub | When F-16 Falcons Ate Hawks for Breakfast (1994)

On February 28, 1994, a group of six Serbian J-21 Jastreb attack aircraft led by pilot Ranko Vukmirovic, were on a mission to take out a military factory in Novi Travnik during the Bosnian War.

Some 50 miles away a pair of two American F-16Cs piloted by Captain Robert Wright and Captain Scott O'Grady from 526th Fighter Squadron supported the no-fly zone over Bosnia as part of Operation Deny Flight.

Although aware of the F-16 presence and possible consequences, Serbian pilots continued their bombing run. The Americans engaged the Jastrebs, leading to the first NATO combat engagement in its history.

The main source we used for this film was the book Operation Deliberate Force: Air War Over Bosnia and Herzegovina, 1992-1995., by Bojan Dimitrijevic.
