Planet 9 May Be Found as Scientists Detect New Clues

As of early 2026, the search has entered what many researchers hope is its final phase. The archival candidate identified in the 2025 Phan study is undergoing rigorous verification.

Astronomers are using the Vera C. Rubin Observatory and other facilities to follow up on the specific coordinates where the infrared heat signature was detected. The goal is to capture the object in the visible spectrum and confirm its planetary nature.

This would provide the final confirmation needed to officially name the planet. The search area has been narrowed down to less than ten percent of the original predicted sky path.
