A look at one of the weirdest reptiles on Earth, New Zealand's tuatara. How did it survive when most dinosaurs were driven to extinction?

Known as the 3-eyed baby dragon of New Zealand, the Tuatara is a living fossil. With its third eye, razor back, and other bizarre adaptations, this ancient reptile outlasted not just the dinosaurs, but the rest of its family.

Today it faces a bleak future. Journeying from an isolated South-Pacific refuge to the crocodile-infested estuaries of northern Australia, we’ll unlock the mystery of how the Tuatara survived to the present day.
