A few hundred million years ago, the Earth was very different from what it is today. If we looked at it from space, we would not have seen the familiar outlines of the continents and oceans, because at that time the entire landmass was one giant supercontinent called Pangaea.
Nowadays, its fragments are in fact the continents, so familiar to us. Some of them have merged to form single land masses, while the rest have changed when mountains and faults appeared.
