Black Box Files | The Forst Zinna Rail Disaster (1988)

In East Germany 1988 a colossal military complex used for training T-64 tanks for the Soviet Army and known as Forst Zinna experienced one of the worst rail disasters of the Cold War.

This mini documentary dives into the history of the base, the people who lived and worked there and the war machines that maneuvered and trained around a busy rail line.

On the evening of January 19th, an express train collided with a T-64 tank which had become stranded across one of the tracks. What followed was a catastrophe that sent shock waves across the DDR.
