Whatever you think of Anthropic, what they're actually refusing to do is let the government use AI for mass surveillance of Americans, collecting location data, browsing history, financial records.
That's not a liberal position. That's the most conservative position there is. Limited government means the state doesn't get unlimited power to monitor its own people.
The Pentagon says they just want it for "all lawful purposes," but the contract language included escape clauses that would let them ignore the restrictions whenever they wanted.
If you value the Second Amendment because you believe in protection against government overreach, you should care just as much about preventing AI-powered surveillance infrastructure. An armed population doesn't mean much if the government already knows where everyone is and what they're doing.
Even Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) says the Pentagon is handling this wrong. This isn't left vs right, it's about whether the government can punish any American company that won't hand over the tools to surveil its own citizens.
