The Space Race | Sputnik Mania (1957)

I made this cold war feature length documentary titled Sputnik Mania at the time of the 50th anniversary of the launch of Sputnik, the first artificial satellite, by the Soviet Union. It took place in October 1957.

This event was a major milestone in the Space Race, a key aspect of the Cold War competition between the United States and the Soviet Union. My point of view was purely American – looking at what happened and how Americans reacted to Sputnik 1 and Sputnik 2 with Laika the dog aboard.
