It started as a small, secret team inside Google, built in the shadow of Internet Explorer, fueled by fear of Microsoft’s control, and staffed with engineers pulled straight from Firefox.

Then it got an engine fork that changed the web’s physics. Then it became so dominant that even Microsoft stopped fighting and moved in. This isn’t just the story of a faster browser.
